New Raveonettes Video - "Boys Who Rape"

Danish co-ed duo The Raveonettes throw subtlety out the window with "Boys Who Rape," the second single from last year's LP "In and Out of Control."

The song's disturbing video, which was released this week, features jarring images of battered women and newspaper clippings detailing sexual assaults. Hammering the point home, the song's chorus repeats "Boys who rape should all be destroyed."

The serious subject matter is relatively new territory for The Raves, who usually stick with sunny surf-rock. But dark material is abundant on "In and Out of Control" - first single "Last Dance" is about repetitive overdosing - and "Boys Who Rape" is obviously no exception.

New Tiesto Video - "Feel It In My Bones"

So, this is fun! DJ Tiesto and soldout faves Tegan & Sara teamed up to make a dance track last year (which, incidentally, was my favorite song of 2009. Can't get enough of it.), the video for which premiered this week.

On his album "Kaleidoscope," which was released last year, Tiesto also collaborates with Nelly Furtado, Metric's Emily Haines, and members of Sigur Ros and Bloc Party.

As the soldout member who knows the least about the trance/club scene, I'm not sure how I got nominated to put this up. But look at the lights! And good luck getting the hook out of your head.

In New York City? Do this tonight.

Local buzz band Savoir Adore have secured on many "To Watch in 2010" lists around the indie rock circuit, and they're playing their first show of the year at New York City's Mercury Lounge tonight. The pop quartet released their full-length debut, "In the Wooded Forest," back in September, and are scheduled to play SXSW later this year. Trust us - this is one bandwagon you'll want to jump on early.

Check out the song "We Talk Like Machines" for a little taste.

Song of the Day: Still Life Still

Today's song of the day is in honor of Toronto's Still Life Still, who play the second show of their month-long residency at New York City's Mercury Lounge tonight.

Even though last year's "Girls Come Too" was their debut full-length release, the five guys have been playing together since they were 13 years old, and it shows. Their tight stage show and catchy harmonies place them a cut above your typical Canadian indie rock.

Still Life Still takes the stage at Mercury tonight at 8:30, and their two remaining shows are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 20 and Friday, Jan. 29. If you're in New York, check them out and thank me later.

    Happy Belated Birthday, Michael Stipe

So, we're a little slow on the uptake, but in honor of Michael Stipe's 50th birthday (which was Monday. whoops.), Russ, Ben and I decided to engage in a little debate about what we feel are the top R.E.M. songs of all time. Now, Russ and I have had conversations about the fact that R.E.M. is among both of our Top Artists of All Time (Russ is from Georgia; that's a given), but we've never actually gotten down to specific material. Until now.

    And oh yeah, Ben cheated.
