Song of the Day: Family of the Year

"Songbook," the debut LP from folk-y sextet Family of the Year comes out today, and it's a warm, inviting, curl-up-with-a-blanket-by-the-fireplace wintertime record. Think CSNY- and Fleetwood Mac-esque harmonies, with a modern indie pop sensibility that expresses equal admiration for The Beatles and Belle and Sebastian.

All six of the band members — including brothers Joe and Sebastian Keefe — live together in Los Angeles and spend their nights writing and recording songs — and their camaraderie is evident throughout "Songbook."

Song of the Day: Bad Veins

One of my favorite breakout acts of 2009 was Cincinatti duo Bad Veins, who released their debut self-titled LP in the early part of the year. First single Gold and Warm was one of my top 10 songs of 2009 (check out that bass line!), and I had a chance to catch them live over the summer, in a performance that featured unofficial third member "Irene," a 1973 reel to reel recorder that plays the band's backing tracks.

This week, in conjunction with the announcement of an 10-date tour with We Were Promised Jetpacks, Bad Veins released their second single, "Go Home." Irene is featured prominently.

Check out "Go Home," our song of the day, here. Tour dates after the jump.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Video Premiere - "Skeletons"

The video for "Skeletons," the third single off last year's Yeah Yeah Yeahs album It's Blitz, premiered over at Babelgum today. The black-and-white clip, directed by Barney Clay (who also helmed the band's "Zero" video last year), is as gorgeous and haunting as the song itself, featuring apparitions of the band members floating in a foggy cemetery.

The Wait is Over for new Beach House

After much hype, "Teen Dream," the eagerly-anticipated third record from Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House, is finally out today — and what an aptly-named, dreamy soundscape of an album it is. The companion DVD features videos for all 10 songs, each conceived by a different director. Check out the video for "Silver Soul," directed by Beach House's female half, Victoria Legrand (and with hula hoops!) here.

Beach House kicks off a U.S. tour March 26 in Washington, D.C.

Song of the Day: Dum Dum Girls

Here's something sunny to start off your weekend - "Jail La La" by Sub Pop's Dum Dum Girls, who are on our 2010 Watch List. The Los Angeles quartet's album "I Will Be" won't be released until March, but this first single will give you a little taste.

Check out "Jail La La" here.
