The reason I like this song is that it's not indicative of the rest of her music at all. It sounds like a different artist, and in her case, that's a relief. So, maybe there’s hope? I know, I know. That’s a hell of a grasp at an impossible straw. At least she gave me one mildly enjoyable, guilty pleasure song.
This is the first of a new Sunday Morning Music feature meant to highlight the music that you want to put on when you wake up at the end of a long week. You want something soft, something soothing, something that you can listen to with your sweetie. (Oh, don't groan. I'm a big softie, not afraid to admit it, and fergawdsakes, it's Valentine's Day.)
The Watson Twins have been struggling to find themselves ever since the wide exposure they got when working with Jenny Lewis on her first solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat. I wasn't impressed with their own full-length debut, but their new album (just released on Feb. 9th), Talking to You, Talking to Me finds them in much better form. The whole record definitely goes into Sunday rotation.
In lieu of a video from the recent release--there aren't any yet--enjoy this performance from Homer's Record's in Omaha. The Twins cover the Cure classic "Just Like Heaven," stripped-down and soaring.
To dismiss her outright is just absurd. Even if you hate her, you’re talking about her, so she’s a cultural phenomenon now. We have to deal with it.It’s important to keep Lady Gaga in the context of pop music, where she has firmly placed herself. The singer/songwriter shtick wasn’t working for her, so she abandoned it. She went with what worked. How is that wrong?
