Talking About Things: Brett Could Write A Bad Romance

I fucking love Lady GaGa. I do. It's no secret, what? GA GA RA RA RA and all that.

In the grand tradition of allowing people I know to wax faux-intellectual about various forms of pop music because it elevates it into art, my QBAH2 partner-in-crime Brett Sandusky took a first listen to "Bad Romance" and live-tweeted the experience.

    Russ's Best Music Of 2009

Gah, the hand-wringing. The debates. The yelling at various albums to try harder. I know several people bemoaning 2009 as a horrid year for music, but as far as I'm concerned those people basically shut down once that Animal Collective record came out.

    Try Harder: Rihanna

Man, year end lists. Things are going crazy over here. Liz is threatening to just write The Con 10 times. Ben has turned his list in but thinking about finding his music, half of which I've never heard, makes my head hurt.

So I thought I'd turn to the idea of folks who didn't make the cut, but who came close to being on our individual lists, for what I'm dubbing "Try Harder". For me, one of those is Rihanna, and her new Rated R album.

"Umbrella" was a great song, but Rated R is almost a great album.
