Just Bein' Miley
Everyone's favorite tween sensation who's not Justin Bieber released a new music video yesterday.
Yes, our beloved Miley Cyrus has finally crossed the threshold she's been toeing for so long, fully abandoning her Disney Channel, girl next door roots for full-on slutdom. The clip for her new single, "Can't Be Tamed," (insert coming-of-age, teenage girl rebellion joke here), cinematically resembles the latest Harry Potter installment and features her basically writhing around in a cage for a few minutes, looking like the product of a one night stand between Lady Gaga and a giant crow.
She's definitely jumping on the Gaga-Glambert train musically, but there's enough good production behind it to make up for the fact that homegirl can't really sing all that well. Or at all.
My first reaction to the song itself is that I kind of like it. In fact, I really like it. I'm also trying to forget about the fact that she's like 14.
What do you think of the newest entry in the Miley Cyrus juggernaut? Sound off below!
ooooh Hannah Montana discovered orgasms AND Gaga on the same day!
Miley! I love it. I've heard (that is, my friends have said over email) that it's just Miley being Gaga'd and sexed up but if you watch the E! Online interview with her she talks about writing the song, designing her video herself, and how the sexy video is kind of an eff you to her boyfriend who got all the attention when he was all half-naked in the movie where they met... so whether she was influenced by pop music's recent dark turn or Gaga's video style or if she's just being fed a script, she's spinning it as her own creation.
And it's hot. And she looks hot in it (did her teeth get smaller or did her face get bigger?). I'm not ashamed to say I'll take one of every outfit she wears in it. And some wings...
And shit if the song ain't a jam.
I wish the beginning announcer guy had been Crispin Glover.
How old is she again? A quick Google search: 17, 18 in November. I'm a little creeped.
Well, this answers who will fill the void left by Britney Spears. The video does seem like it wants to cash in on the Gaga aesthetic, but look at those Britney faces! Britney-esque writhing! Even the age factor brings me back to the glory days of Ms. Spears.
Also, she totally touched her boobies.
On the first listen, the thump-bounce of this song immediately gets me. I like the video, I like the tune, I like the direction. I can't believe I'm saying it, but I'm down.
