    Just call up I'm drinkin'

I guess, all things considered, we should be worried about Drake. He's lost, he's lonely in room full of money and girls and so blurred out that he can't see anything. He's smiling through the pain, but barely, and then we get this:

Three solid minutes of total self-hurt and apathy.

I can tell, I can tell, I can tell certain people don’t like me no more
New shit don’t excite me no more
Guess they don’t really make ‘em like me no more

Uh, you can look me in my eyes and see I aint myself

Cause if ya what I created than I hate myself

But still, let them girls in,
And tell em all leave their cell phones on the table where we see ‘em
I’m all day with it man, AM to the PM

Drake can't even trust the light-skinned model girls that they let in during "Fancy". If, on "Marvin's Room", he was just calling because the girls were just leaving, here he doesn't even trust the phones. He's living in his own personal "The Wire" of fame.

And then our beloved The Weeknd took it a step further

Taking the chorus from "I'm on one" to "I popped one", The Weeknd's take on "Trust Issues" is an addled, drug-damaged and damn-right scary love song, with a creepy child-like female Greek chorus answering all questions with "I do, I do, I do". It's very possible that all parties involved just need a little sleep and everything will be better, but it's equally possible that, in this bleak Candian landscape (now apparently referred to as OVOXO), everything is just broken. If that's the case, I'll gladly watch them walk on glass to keep these beautiful, painful sounds coming.

    Breadcrumb Dish

This shit has me fucking blunted. The Clams Casino ep, Rainforest, is on its way and it's a deep, reverberating slice of something magical.

    Rainforest EP by clammyclams

I don't mean to sound redundant, as you're going to be reading about this piece of Tri-angle Records goodness in basically any publication that does more than cover uncle-rock (so, yeah, not in PASTE, but that's fine, let your Uncle read PASTE, he's really curious what The Drive-By Truckers are up to), but this is an EP that's made for taking drugs and putting headphones on and wandering around in the summer heat. In that regard, it's a soul-cousin to Beck's Midnite Vultures. Clams is a little more haunted, though, and I think he's warning about something. It loses the plot, the EP does, at times, and stumbles through the titular jungle in search of...what? It remains to be seen what that is, but the sweaty, dirty taste of the Rainforest is enough to occupy one summer.

    JoJo's Room

Who the fuck is JoJo? Ok, so I actually know who JoJo is but...damn, this is SHOCKING. JoJo turns Drake's recently-released-to-no-fanfare "Marvin's Room", aka "the drunk dial song", into a painful, gloves-off smackdown. This is...pretty fucking good. Where've you been hiding the talent/pain, JoJo? We're fans of both around here (but mostly pain).

    #ScrabbleBitch

Finally, finally, fucking finally, after running around from here to there like Big Man in Trapped in the Closet, we get a new song from Jean Grae. Sure, she's been touring her forthcoming Cake or Death for a hot minute (and what a live show it is, too), but this is the first we've heard recorded that isn't a guest verse in a minute now and damn if it's not worth that wait. Jean takes no prisoners. Jean Grae "Casebasket" by 3DDistro

    Kate Bush - Director's Cut

Updated on Jun 5, 2011 by Registered CommenterRuss

Editor's note: Atlanta-based Collin Kelley is, in addition to being a fantastic writer, a dear friend of, and oft-contributor to, soldout. When he wrote saying he'd done the deed--contextualized, properly, Kate Bush's Director's Cut, soldout welcomed it eagerly. Collin's also provided a healthy essential guide to Kate's work, posted as an addendum/follow-up to this review.

Kate Bush – Director’s Cut (2011, Fish People)

    By Collin Kelley

Iconoclastic Kate Bush recently released her ninth studio album, Director's Cut, on her newly created label, Fish People. When Bush announced that her next album would be re-workings of songs from 1989's The Sensual World and 1993's The Red Shoes, fan reaction was mixed. When the track-listing was made public, there was collective apoplexy that Bush would have the temerity to monkey with classics like "This Woman's Work," "The Sensual World" and "Moments of Pleasure." How very dare she!
